Monthly Bible Discussion
The format of these study sessions is intended to be an informal, “coffee shop” type of discussion. Their purpose is not so much to take a detailed look at the passages, verse by verse, but rather to read each set of passages in its entirety and to discuss our general reactions, feelings and questions. Given the length of some of these passages, it would be helpful to read the assigned sections of the scripture before the discussion.
The Gospel of John: During 2012, we are going to work our way through the gospel of John. This was almost certainly written later than any of the other gospels, and its "feel," in terms of its presentation of Jesus' teaching and ministry, is quite different from the synoptic gospels (Mark, Matthew and Luke). As in previous years, the discussion evenings will focus on the interests and questions of those who come, preferably having read the relevant passages beforehand. In 2012, we will "skip" the month of July, and in November we will gather on the fifth Thursday, rather than the fourth.
