Monthly Bible Discussion

The format of these study sessions is intended to be an informal, “coffee shop” type of discussion.  Their purpose is not so much to take a detailed look at the passages, verse by verse, but rather to read each set of passages in its entirety and to discuss our general reactions, feelings and questions.  Given the length of some of these passages, it would be helpful to read the assigned sections of the scripture before the discussion.

Minor Prophets, Women in the Bible and Apocryphal Writings: The prophets Micah, Amos and Hosea are connected with the decline of Israel, Judah and the Jewish exile; Joel wrote earlier.  Ruth and Deborah show women in pivotal roles during Israel’s formative period. Esther and Judith depict women of destiny later in Israel’s history.  The books of Wisdom and Sirach are wisdom literature from the biblical books between the testaments (apocrypha).
