Video Bible School
Monday to Friday, 5-9 July 2010, 2:00-5:00 pm each day.
This may be Hollywood North, but our Bible epics are usually a little less imposing. Still, they can be fun. For the sixth year Saint Catherine’s is offering an opportunity for young people between the ages of 8 and 18 to use their creative talents to produce a dramatic version of a Bible story.
By participating in the process of bringing the story to life, they are drawn into considering its main points and meaning. This is a creative venture, conducted in a workshop setting, and the participants are encouraged to be involved according their level of ability and area(s) of interest. Everyone will have a chance to expose their skills and develop their talents.
The week is offered as a workshop. It will be tailored to the interests, needs and abilities of those who participate. Consequently, there will be a lot of flexibility in the way that it is structured and the outline of the week is very adaptable. We try to help our cast members to develop some dramatic skills, to learn how to act in front of the camera, and to understand some of the mechanics of preparing a film. However, the main purpose of the week is for the students to have fun, and to interact with the Bible story.
In previous years, we've turned the story of Jonah into a space epic, dealt with Naaman's skin disease and the healing advice of the prophet Elisha, traced the story of Moses and the Exodus, and produced a version of Noah and the flood using sock puppets. Last year, the gang of Phil Stein, and its champion, Goliath, confronted the Lord's gang, with a burned-out leader, Saul, a concerned prophet, Sam, and a young leader-in-waiting, David. Who knows what will result from the creative impulses of our young cast this year?
